What is the Industrial Metaverse?

The Metaverse is a fully immersive and dynamic 3D system of interconnected worlds, each with its own capabilities, that provides users access to Virtual and Augmented reality experiences. It refers to the continuum of digital experiences that enables its users to interact and inhabit the virtual world. The Metaverse boasts of real-time persistence; which means that it provides live experiences to all its users and that it exists irrespective of their physical presence. This concept applied to an Enterprise setting to create virtual factories and remote collaboration workspaces will be the first evolution of the Industrial Metaverse. More detailed visualizations, functionality, and intractability will come in as technology progresses.

Metaverse Components

The Metaverse is a conjunction of three key components:

  • Web 3.0
Web 3.0 is the third generation of web technologies. Web 3.0 is rapidly evolving and still being defined through this evolution. . What is clear, though, is that Web 3.0 will have a strong emphasis on decentralized applications and make extensive use of blockchain-based technologies.
Web 3.0 may be constructed with AI, semantic web, and ubiquitous properties in mind with the goal of providing faster and more relevant data to users.

  • Blockchain
Decentralized applications and services are made possible by the Blockchain. In contrast to centralized database infrastructure, the data and connections between services are dispersed using blockchain. As a way to support verified authenticity in a decentralized environment, blockchain technology can also offer an immutable ledger of transactions and activity.
With the focus on cryptocurrency being the means of exchange in the future,  blockchain will serve as the system through which users purchase, sell, and exchange goods on the Metaverse.

  • AR/VR Hardware
Devices that incorporate stereo sound, gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, and structured light systems to provide a completely immersive experience will be a key component acting as a window between the real world and the virtual world. Devices such as the Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR will enable users to surf Web 3.0, interact with users, perform transactions on the blockchain, etc.
These devices will become an integral part of our daily lives as more and more people start using them for social media, playing video games, and also in improving the efficiency of businesses.

Metaverse finds a wide range of industrial use cases :

  • Virtual Workspaces
Virtual communication has been revolutionized by the Metaverse. Remote interaction between co-workers has become an especially necessary option after the COVID-19 pandemic, and through the Metaverse, users can engage with other users as if they were present in the same room. From different parts of the world, users can give each other clear demonstrations, work on assemblies, design collaboration, and even read their peers’ body language, all in real time. This would be a drastic shift from looking at screens and positively impacting the productivity of employees.
  • Virtual Learning
Metaverse elegantly empowers distance learning. Professional learners can obtain live feedback from their mentors, and can also revisit at their convenience any procedures and protocols that have been demonstrated. In the healthcare industry, it provides a safe environment to provide user exposure to real-life scenarios. This allows users to adapt and react to simulated stressful situations, facilitating the practice of quick and accurate responses.
  • Virtual Commerce
The virtual shopping experience in the Metaverse opens up a range of exciting possibilities. Customers have complete accessibility, they can wander through virtual stores, try out demos of their products and interact on a real-time basis with the salespersons. With the integration of Artificial Intelligence, customers can even be provided with personalized recommendations based on their past purchases and demographic.

What are the benefits of Metaverse?

In order to network and communicate online, more individuals are turning to virtual communities and technological means of communication like video and web conferencing.

The Metaverse provides customers with a range of real-world capabilities in a 3-D immersive world to enhance their current digital experience.

The following are the main advantages that Metaverse offers us:

  • Provides an Improved Communication Platform for Businesses
All of the current challenges with remote work can be solved with the Metaverse. It gives managers access to a virtual setting where they are able to interact with workers (as represented by their avatars), read their body language, and simulate in-person interactions. Moreover, by managing the workforce inside a virtual office, the company can tackle problems that occur at the workplace. The Metaverse fills a gap by enabling individuals to go virtually to destinations they are unable to travel to physically.

  • Provides a Superior Immersive Learning Experience
The Metaverse’s benefits for training and learning are as commendable as its other uses. Industrial Training has reached a new level of quality because of VR and the effects of the Metaverse. Improved and superior information materials are now available for employee use while watching live machine operations. This enhances employee learning and retention thereby increasing productivity and minimizing errors. Metaverse also removes language boundaries by enabling trainees from different geographical locations to receive knowledge from the same digital area without encountering social or linguistic difficulties.

There are an endless number of businesses such as manufacturing, e-commerce, retail, security, education, workplace training, sports organizations, fitness, entertainment, streaming, art, and media that will find immense opportunity in being a part of the Metaverse. Any industry with an aim of making its products more interactive will be focused on the Metaverse.

The Metaverse will not only usher in a new way of doing things, but it will also usher in new businesses that provide experiences that do not yet exist, along with new kinds of employment opportunities.

For the foreseeable future, the Metaverse may very well coexist alongside other sectors, but as younger generations change their tastes and decide how they want to work, and engage with businesses and other people, this may reshape the landscape for conventional business as we know it.
